The top sixteen players off the DPNZ rankings at the end of the 2022 season battled it out on the oche today to see who would take the coveted spot for the 2022 / 2023 PDC World Darts Championships at Alexander Palace in December.
It certainly was a play off packed with New Zealand’s top players from all over the country with some mighty match ups for all to see.
The morning play consisted of four pools of four players playing the best of 9 legs to find the top eight players for the afternoon rounds.
Ben Robb and John Hurring finished first and second in Pool One
Warren Parry and Jack Sheppard finished first and second in Pool Two
Haupai Puha and Jimmy Samuels finished first and second in Pool Three
Darren Herewini and Jamie Roberts finished first and second in Pool Four
Meaning Stu Irwin, Landon Gardiner, Kayden Milne, Hipi Tewhakaara, Haunui Hira, Nevin Fillimoeatu, Mark Cleaver and Josh Robertst were out of contention for the title this year, after some very hard and close fought matches.
In the afternoon rounds play consisted of two pools of four players playing the best of 11 legs to find the top four players for the semi-finals.
Ben Robb and Haupai Puha finished first and second in Pool One
Warren Parry and John Hurring finished first and second in Pool Two
Putting out Jack Sheppard, Jamie Roberts, Jimmy Samuels and Darren Herewini. The matches played between all these players was phenomenal and some very close battles took place.
In the semi finals Ben Robb played John Hurring with both players on absolute fire but Ben was the victor 7 to 4.
In the second semi-final Haupai Puha played Darren Herewini with both players scoring well, but Haupai took out the match 7 to 2.
Finals time and it was a battle of Ben Robb and Haupai Puha to see who would take out the pivotal match and the card for the World Championships in December.
Both players had moments of brilliance but Ben Robb was the winner 8 to 4 with a match average of 96.07.
